Dessins, October 1993
In the field of cartooning, there are a few scenarios that the skilful (or lazy)
cartoonist can re-use almost infinitely, just by changing the caption.
This is one such drawing... a man and a woman are stranded mysteriously
on an uncharted desert island, and the man cheerfully says something
dumb to his maroon-mate. There are so many inane captions one
could affix to this. For example, the text could be changed to read, "Come here often?"
and it's almost like you have a whole new cartoon. Perhaps Ziggy employs this
trick best of all. Who among us does not look forward to seeing the cartoons when Ziggy
is either talking to his reflection in the mirror, staring down a weird vending machine, or
being insulted by his psychiatrist?
